You've Heard of a Web3 Phone, Now There's a Web3 Laptop

While we're still trying to wrap our heads around the benefit of a Web3 phone, the industry will soon be graced with a "Web3 laptop."

European computer company, Metavisio, has announced plans to release the world's first Web3 laptop.

Featuring a built-in cold storage crypto wallet and blockchain-friendly functionalities, the laptop will be developed by Metavisio's subsidiary, Thomson Computing.

While details such as tech specs and release date remain under wraps, the laptop will cater to students, gamers, and general users. Its proprietary operating system, "Web3 OS," will be completed by Q1 2025.

The laptop's key feature, its integrated cold wallet, is a secure enclave chipset designed to store cryptocurrency private keys offline, which significantly reduces the risk of hacks.

Initially supporting Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks, Bitcoin, XRP, and Bittensor, the wallet aims to expand its compatibility in the future. The concept challenges traditional hardware wallets like Ledger.

Pricing for the laptops is expected to range from €499 ($523) to €2,000 ($2,100). Metavisio has also hinted at rewarding users with token airdrops for completing tasks, introducing a gamified aspect to the user experience. These tokens will require users to undergo a KYC process.

“The Web3 laptop is designed for a future where you truly own your digital experience,” Stephan Français, Founder & CEO of Metavisio and Thomson, told Decrypt. “By seamlessly unifying Web3 tools, we’re laying the foundation to empower the next billion users.”
