Solana Unveils Web3 Smartphone Saga Successor: Seeker

Solana Mobile, the mobile subsidiary of Solana Labs has unveiled the name and details of the second generation of its Web3 smartphone. Previously stealth launched as "Chapter Two" earlier this year, the Seeker follows Solana's sold-out Web3 smartphone, Saga.

Emmett Hollyer, general manager of Solana Mobile, announced Seeker at Token2049 in Singapore, revealing that presales for the device have surpassed 140,000 units across 57 countries.

Scheduled for release in 2025, web3 mobile development has been boosted in the Solana community including ecosystem teams building dApps, rewards, and features exclusively for the Seeker.

"We founded Solana Mobile with the mission of taking crypto mobile," said Solana co-founder and Solana Labs CEO Anatoly Yakovenko. "To achieve that, we needed to make Seeker more accessible, more affordable, and for its hardware and software to be even more deeply integrated for web3. The support from across the Solana community so far has been incredible, and with features like the new Seed Vault Wallet and the updated Solana dApp Store, we think Seeker will be the definitive web3 mobile device when it comes out next year."

Features of Solana Seeker include a seed vault wallet, Solana dApp Store 2.0, Seeker Genesis token, and improved hardware.

Early Founder pricing at $450 for Solana Seeker presales is available until September 21, 2024.

The first Saga phone was released in May 2023, priced at $999 (see here for our review. Spoiler: we weren't impressed). Right out of the gate, the device had dated specs, and with Solana Mobile saying its dApp store would be compatible with any Android device in the future, the phone wasn't so unique after all.

Activated phones were granted a genesis NFT, but only a few thousand units were sold in the first few months since its launch. In August, its price was slashed to $599.

An astronomical surge in Solana-backed memecoin BONK, of which 30 million tokens were loaded onto every Saga phone, led to the Saga being sold out.
