Vigilante Retail Crypto Investors Hunt Do Kwon But We’re Unconvinced
Given Interpol’s limited progress in tracking down LUNA founder Do Kwon, crypto retail investors are taking matters into their own hands.
Towards the end of last month, Interpol issued a Red Notice calling for law enforcement around the world to locate and arrest the crypto outlaw. However, Do Kwon’s location still remains a mystery, despite him surfacing to participate in video interviews.
In a recent interview with Laura Shin, Do Kwon said about his location: “it’s not in the interest of let’s say, being on the run or something like that, that I don’t want to disclose where I live, it’s just that every time the location where it live becomes known, it becomes almost impossible for me to live there.”

Fed up and frustrated with the seemingly failed manhunt, disgruntled retail crypto investors have banded together to to form the UST Restitution Group. An association of almost 4,400 investors, the group is tracking down Do Kwon on their own.
A UST Restitution Group member who goes by the name of HKTrader said he had reservations about Interpol’s ability to locate Do Kwon. “You know how Interpol works. It’s up to the hosting country to act,” he said. “We tracked [him] down pretty well when he was in Singapore.”
Kang Hyung-suk, a 26-year-old software engineer who also belongs to the group, believes Do Kwon is in Dubai. “Finding him could be easier than thought,” said Kang. “I want to recruit other people to join the search. There’s a 50-50 chance of getting him in Dubai.”

Another group member said, “Dubai is friendly to crypto, very international (he would not stand out), and has limited extradition treaties in place. It would seem like the best fit for the 3–5 hour timezone shift apparent in the data.”
Others believe Do Kwon could be in Russia, Azerbaijan, Seychelles or Mauritius.
For some group members, losses caused by LUNA have been catastrophic. “The entire timetable for my life’s plans has been upended and set back many years. The stress on top of it has also probably shaved off several years from my lifespan,” UST Restitution Group member Antithesis told the Financial Times. “His days are numbered. “We have people who are very, very close to Do Kwon.”
Pitchforks Wen?
Some group members might be channeling their inner Sherlock Holmes, but others in the Discord group aren’t taking it too seriously. In response to reports of the group making headlines for hunting Do Kwon, one commenter responded, “hunt Kwon? More like shitpost everyday.”
“News article writer obviously didn’t look at a days worth of messages here,” the commenter added.
Indeed, a quick scroll through the group’s Discord shows very little evidence of the group actually sharing information about how to find Do Kwon other than speculative location guesses.
For now, we remain unconvinced by the group’s efforts in hunting Do Kwon thus far. Nonetheless we’ll be tracking the group tracking him for you.
